Q: “Did it [drinking] seem to affect your playing? You say it didn’t but there must have been nights when you walked off the stand and didn’t really remember everything you did…”

A: “No, my playing improved for me. Well, although I said before that, I didn’t, you know, I never got real drunk or … I mean, I used to drink all day, but I mean, I could always make my gig. But I did play a little different when I got a little high, you know. I mean, but sober, you start to hear more and you listen more and it was a great experience really playing sober for a change and I'm really enjoying it.”
