Q: “Speaking of some people who have died; boy, when you start saying ‘well of course he was in this band when I was in it and then he was over there…’. Was there an awful lot of movement of players from band to band or was it pretty stable?”
A: “Well, yeah. It was pretty stable in those days because I remember Alfonso Trent used to try to get Jimmy Rushing from the Blue Devils Band and financially, Trent was... they were the band. They had money and great band and everything. This is a band that Peanuts was in and they couldn't get Rush and they weren't making anything. Bassey was in that band, but they had a good band. Blue Devils, Walter Page was the leader of the band. Financially, Rush really needed to have gone with Trent, but there was no way...”
