Q: “Did you think that you’d pretty much stay around home wherever you chose it to be – and it was New York – playing jazz? Was that what you wanted to do, coming off the road?”

A: Urbie Green: “Well, I just wanted to ... at that time, I was just looking for a way to make a living. I was ready to go and sell shoes or anything at that time just to ...”

Interviewer: “What?”

Urbie Green: “Yeah, if I had to, but I didn't have to. I got pretty busy right away. But I have always tried to stay active in the jazz field, even with the studio work to keep active.”
