Q: “Did you ever go into a studio orchestra like NBC playing with Arthur Godfrey or any of that kind of stuff?”

A: “Well, I did play with Arthur Godfrey for a while. I used to be ... when I first went to New York, that was one of the things that I used to do. Is to substitute for the steady player who was Cy Schaefer at that time. And I would play when he went on vacation. I wanted to do something else and later on I did a thing. It was a transcribed program called the Ford Road Show with Arthur Godfrey, and I did that one. And I was on staff with CBS for about nine months when I first went to New York, but I decided to give that up just to be a freelancer because I didn't want to be tied down to that steady job.”
