Q: “You’ve always had a bass player in your group but you haven’t always had drums. You’ve recorded as much as anybody I know with other guitar players or piano players and sometimes you just forget the drums altogether – but always a bassist!”
A: Tal Farlow: “Well, back then, oh, you see, more recently it's been that the drumm have been included in the other chord instrument with that or whatever, you know. And that has to do with realities, you know. I mean, when you...”
Interviewer: “When they got his way?”
Tal Farlow: “Well, yeah, and you know, when I'm traveling around and playing with the local guys or had different situations almost every night sometimes especially in Europe, you know. And it's not going to come out well, you know, because of the different chord conceptions, even if you're not really playing diametrically opposed harmonies at the same time, you know. So a bass, you know, and you know that three plays can represent a bunch of chords, you know, it's dissonant and the drummer is not going to effect it one way or the other in that department.”
