Q: “Do you ever try to sing yourself, or did you ever sing?”

A: “Well, I did at one time. I was sort of a balladeer. I sing quiet songs, not much voice, but plenty of soul. And I did scat singing. Well, I used to work with alto player by the name of Pony Poindexter and he and I would do a lot of scat singing together, 'Oo Bop With Doll' and quite a few tunes that I forgot about. But strange that I was able to sing ballad and still scat sing, but I did it. I can't do it now, though. There will be no request for vocalizing from Richard Wyands.”
