Q: “It’s too bad when you’ve got to travel the world beating your fingers on instruments that are not worth it…”
A: “Well, some of us have been lucky; I'd have to say, meaning piano players. Most of the places I've been, the pianos have been very good. I was on a tour somewhere, I'm trying to think, in Germany, West Germany. And we played at some kind of a beer social hall and that was one of the worst pianos I ever attempted to play. It was in tune, but the action was just impossible. I usually don't complain much about action, but this one was impossible. I didn't know how I was going to be able to play it. I really didn't, but I did.”
