Q: “How early had you decided that it was going to be music and not law or medicine or fronting a jewelry store or something?”

A: “I think ... well, I don't know. I think I always felt I was going to be a musician, but I think I decided I was going to be a jazz pianist, you know, when I first heard jazz. Well, actually, when I first heard Oscar Peterson, you know, when I was about fourteen.”
