Q: “I always knew that you played guitar but I didn’t realize how well until I heard you play here [Toronto]. I think of you as a singer, and more unheralded as you should be – not enough people realize just how musicianly [sic] a singer you are, but your guitar playing quite surprised me. Has that always been a part of your playing?”
A: “Yeah, but I'm never that serious. How that came about, it was like it was forced on me, so to speak. You know, when I was first coming up, to make a long story short, everybody was, you know, talking me and the style I had or whatever and the concept and such good ears and the musicianship. And just touched the guitar a little bit with a couple of chords and he said, "Man, you ought to get into it. It will get you more work." You know, I was a kid, so I still wasn't into it and then all of a sudden, in the last seven years I started getting heavy with it, you know, really getting into it and I just broke out until now. I'd like to make a guitar jazz album with you, you know, and cooking an album, you know.”
