Q: “New York has the ‘jazz energy’, which is not to say that the musicianship isn’t equal elsewhere…”

A: “Absolutely correct. When John Reeves and I were shooting this picture book, we spent six weeks in New York City. And I lived in New York all through the '60s. And anybody who thinks that jazz isn't vital and alive and still growing had better go and spend six weeks in New York.”
