Q: “How do you approach arranging? You do virtually all of the arranging for the group, right?”

A: “Yeah, my philosophy in arranging is, arrange only when necessary. The best arrangements usually occur when you leave everybody to their own devices and they come up with ideas. Once in a while, you want to get a certain sound. A lot of our things are strictly off the top off top of our heads and they’re arrangements that evolved through nightly playing. Sometimes, that's the best way.”
