Q: “How did you start playing, where’s your home city?”

A: “Well, actually, I was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina. My father went to school with Dizzy Gillespie at Laurinburg Institute there. And I guess after I was about three months old, my mother and father migrated to the North to Newark, New Jersey where I actually was educated and was brought up and I picked up the trumpet at age eleven.”
