Q: “Sound is something you keep saying, whether you’re aware or – well, I guess you are aware of it. That is what you like, is sound…”
A: “That is what it's all about. I think of melody and harmony as a compression of taking the entire sound spectrum and realizing the possibilities within the spectrum. You have the entire universe. And so a melody and simple harmony is like a compression of that and only one aspect of it. I listen to a lot of 20th century classical music because aside from its use in film scoring, it keeps my mind open to the possibilities of sound patterns and qualities and textures beyond just melody and harmony. And then it's fun to mix those. For me, I enjoy the mixture of abstract sound and non-abstract sound.”
