Q: “I see Buddy Johnson joined the [Count Basie] band after you – is that the same Buddy Johnson?”

A: “Buddy … what happened, Buddy got a contract. This Black fellow's name was Williams, I forgot what, but anyway, he had charge of the R&B department as they would call it. And he discovered Buddy and started to record and that's how Buddy got his break.”
