Q: “When did you start playing – when you were a young tad?”

A: “Well, actually I took the class for six years when I was about ten years old and when I got about sixteen, there was a fellow who lived in my block. He was about four years old than me and he saw I was interested in music. He said, "I'm going to take you to wait somewhere to hear something." So he took me to one of those rent parties, Fats Waller, Willie The Lion, James P and all of them were there. Right away, that turned me completely around. What an experience to be sixteen years old and hear all of that, you know.”
