Q: “You have kept with a certain repertoire, haven’t you?”

A: “I'm getting out of that doubt a little more. I'm starting to write more. I've decided that after all of these years of freelancing basically alone, I've been very grateful that the nature of this music allows us to go in and play in front of an audience for the first time with a new band and they understand, the ones who'd understand, that it is happening that way and can accept it because something spiritual will inevitably happen, although it's less than perfect, it can be less than perfect. But now, I'm in the position, I think, with seniority rights to deliver a band. I just toured with my quartet for two weeks in Europe a few months ago and everything was more expensive, of course, but everything... there were more people and that we played more of our own music rather than just the standards that you play as common material and the response was proportionately better.”
