Q: “Did you start on flute or piano?”

A: “Oh, no. I started on the piano. There was always a piano in my house when I was born, I guess. Nobody played it. Well, my grandmother, she used to have this way of playing the blues with two fingers, you know, and she would sing along with a limited accompaniment.”
