Q: “Do you think or sing differently whether you’re working with a trio or a big band? How do you adjust or compensate?”

A: Joe Williams: “Well, when you were with the big orchestra, of course, you tried to sing... at least, I tried to sing with the orchestra and to sing the solo part that dovetail and that coincide with what is being played and sing the parts that are not being played.”

Interviewer: “Mind your own falls.”

Joe Williams: “That's right.”

Interviewer: “Your own notes.”

Joe Williams: “That's right, but with a small group, you can go all over the place, you know.”
