Q: “As an instrumentalist is it helpful to know the lyrics of a song or at least the feeling of the words?”

A: “Yes, then you can ... that's the same thing that I was talking about when I said I did the liturgical work with John Jensen in New York. The music express what lyrics said and when he talked about different passages, you know, there was one from the Songs of Solomon, 'Arise, my fair one, and come away with me'. You know, and so like this sets up the music and then when the music relates to that, oh, you can think of all the beautiful things. You know, I mean, because that's what the topic has designated to us and the music ... you look at the movies, I mean, you see what they're doing, but they put music behind it and the music has so much magic in it that it gives you a better understanding and a feeling. You become a part of that scene within yourself, you know. But music, it helps to create that whole atmosphere.”
