Q: “You have basically been out of the bebop tradition, and obviously a lot of Bud Powell as an early influence”

A: Hod O'Brien: “Yeah.”

Interviewer: “And your earlier influences?”

Hod O'Brien: “And the early influences were Bud and then, you know, Red Garland I loved immensely. Tommy Flanagan. I still love Tommy, Tommy has always been, for various reasons, one of my favorites. But in the early days, you know, Tommy was around then, and he was one of the cast I met on the scene.”
