[Talking about the worry of making a mistake while recording with a large band]
Q: “…there are sixteen other men who have to redo it because you made a mistake…”
A: “Yeah, I remember infuriating Johnny on one of the recording sessions. We were having a bad time with one tune for some reason or another and I played a wrong chord somewhere. And in the middle of this take, I mean, it was going quite well, I said, "John, I played the wrong chord." I completely ruined the take and he got furious because, of course, they could have taken it out or just tipped the piano track down or whatever, you know. But I was very naive about that sort of thing in those days.”
