[Discussing his accident in a hotel]
Q: “Could you explain just what happened? You’ve damaged your arms and hands…”
A: “Yeah. What really happened, I had a bath at a place I was playing in Maryland. And the shower fixtures weren’t too cool. I stood up. I was letting the bath water out of the tub but I was going to shower let - you know. And I stood up to her with the shower on. I had it on cold, but somehow it went haywire and this scalding hot water came on with such a force, it hit me. Knocked me down and unconscious. I don’t know how long I was there. When I gained consciousness it was just scalding hot water pouring down on me. Luckily I gained consciousness. So I knew I had to get out, but the damage had been done. And I must have been there quite a while too, you know, for the damage it had done on my arm and stomach and my fingers, my own left fingers. That was the dangerous part. Scalding hot water. And, well, I don’t know, I had been in that, I had a bath and shower before and then just something went wrong.”
