Q: “Talking with Bobby about equipment and microphones and everything, is talking to an expert. We were just chatting about some things; you really enjoy good sound, don’t you!”
A: “Oh, yeah. I don't know. There is really nothing like it. I have a lot of pretty good equipment at home and when I want it, when I need some therapy to restore my sanity, if I have any, that's how I spend the time listening to symphonies and Louis Armstrong and to hear it right, I think it's wonderful with state of the art equipment. I've been in it since its inception. I remember hanging out at Avery Fisher's place when they had just a room about this size, the size of this studio, and he … a great inventor, a great everything. He used to build, custom build, amplifiers for Toscanini and people like that. And I've been in close touch with it ever since. I think I had the first tape recorder in the U.S., believe it or not.”
