Q: “How was it working with Tommy [Dorsey]?”

A: “I thought it was great. By then, by the time we got to know him, he had mellowed and I had heard he was a tyrant before but my wife and I got married on the band, as a matter of fact, we go married three days before I got on the road with the bank and then after 3 days on the road, my wife told me she didn’t like the road and she was toing to move, go to the next town and wait for me, every wee or two, whenever. So she couldn’t take the road at all. That’s the way we started our marriage. And, luckily, we’ve been married 39 years, so it lasted.”
