Q: “We were talking about the rivalry between Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey – it was very real…”
A: “Yes, it was real, but we wound up near the end of my year with Tommy Dorsey which was when he broke up the band for a while, that was a string band, at the end of this period. We played at a place called, I think it was called Ocean Park, which Tommy owned, ah and ah, and there were a couple of big boxing gloves put up over the bandstand and both bands were on the stand, not at the same time, we played alternately, sets, different sets, Tommy on one and Jimmy on the other and it was funny. A lot of people came.”
