VIC VOGEL (Pianist, composer, conductor, arranger, trombonist) was born Victor Stefan on August 3, 1935 in Montreal, Quebec. Largely self taught, Vogel moved between the jazz, pop and orchestral worlds. Following stints with several bands in the 1950s he formed his first group in 1960 and in 1968 created the Vic Vogel Big Band in the style of Duke Ellington which performed numerous times at the Montreal Jazz Festival and featured guests such as Mel Torme and Dizzy Gillespie. Vogel worked consistently for CBC in radio and TV composing scores and wrote, arranged and conducted music for Expo 67 and the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
