Terry Promane
Biography
TERRY PROMANE (trombonist, tuba-player, arranger) is a Toronto low brass specialist, active in jazz and commercial music. He has worked with innumerable international jazz names including Kenny Wheeler, Bill Holman, Maria Schneider, Vince Mendoza, Ella Fitzgerald, and Mel Torme, and been featured in the pit-bands for dozens of touring musical theatre hits including ‘Show Boat’, ‘Sunset Boulevard’, ‘Crazy for You’, ‘Phantom of the Opera’, ‘CATS’, ‘Ragtime’, ‘Chicago’, ‘Fosse’, ‘The Lion King’, and ‘The Producers’.
Promane has also played on countless radio and television jingles as well as TV themes and feature movies. As a talented writer, he has considerable experience composing and arranging for leading groups and artists including the Dave McMurdo Jazz Orchestra, the Jazz Cartel, the Brigham Phillips Big Band, the Kirk MacDonald Big Band, and bassist Dave Young. He performed extensively with the JUNO Award-winning Rob McConnell Tentet, the Dave McMurdo Jazz Orchestra. He currently plays with several leading ensembles including the Hilario Duran Latin Jazz Orchestra, the Mike Murley Septet, and the Dave Young Sextet and Octet.
Terry Promane is a respected jazz educator who has taught at all four post-secondary jazz studies programs in the Toronto. Currently his is Associate Professor and Coorindator of the the past several years as an Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Toronto.
