Tara Davidson

Biography

TARA DAVIDSON (alto and soprano saxophones, composer, bandleader) Toronto born and raised Davidson is seen as a promising new artist among the current generation of jazz musicians. Receiving her B.A. in Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto, Davidson has studied with Mike Murley, and in 2006 joined with David Braid in forming the successful DMBQ (Davidson, Murley, Braid) ensemble. Her 2006 release, Code Breaking, was nominated for a JUNO for Traditional Jazz Album of the Year.

Davidson co-leads the Carn Davidson 9 with trombonist William Carn. The group released their debut recording, Nine, in the Fall of 2012 on Addo Records.

In 2014, Davidson released Duets on Addo Records. The album featurings pianists Laila Biali, and David Braid, bassist / cellist Andrew Downing, saxophonists Trevor Hogg, and Mike Murley and guitarist David Occhipinti.

Tara was nominated for the Toronto Arts Foundation Emerging Jazz Artist Award in 2015.

She is on faculty at York University, the Humber College Community Music School and the National Music Camp of Canada.
