Robi Botos
Biography
ROBI BOTOS (pianist,composer) Hungarian born Botos, raised in a musical family and largely self taught is deemed by many to be a worthy successor to Oscar Peterson. His dynamic performances have earned him international recognition – winning competitions in Montreux, Paris and Jacksonville’s, Florida’s Great American piano competition in 2008. A t the National Jazz Awards in 2007 he was chosen Keyboardist of the Year and was nominated for a JUNO award for One Take in 2006. A member of Archie Alleyne’s bebop ensemble “Kollage” and a respected and sought after sideman, Botos also performs frequently with his brother, drummer Frank Botos in a trio setting.
Robi was featured at the “Music of Art Tatum” concert on March 16, 2009 as part of the Sound of Toronto jazz series.
Robi performs on a regular basis with Molly Johnson, Mike Downes, and many other artists.
His latest album, Movin' Forward, was released in March of 2015. It features saxophonist Seamus Blake, bassist Robert Hurst, and drummer Jeff 'Tain' Watts.
