Rafael Zaldivar

Biography

Rafael Zaldivar (pianist) is Montreal-based pianist and composer from Camagüey, Cuba. He began playing percussion and piano at age ten and pursued his studies at the Institute of Superior Arts of Havana. Moving to Canada at age 22, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Montreal and a Master’s degree at McGill University.

Rafael has studied with the Barry Harris and Kenny Barron. He has performed with Steve Coleman, Francisco Mela, Danilo Perez, Oliver Jones, André Leroux, and Rémi Bolduc.

His second recording, "Drawing," features saxophonist Greg Osby.
