Larry Cramer
Biography
LARRY CRAMER (trumpeter, flugelhornist, producer) was born on July 7, 1955 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Known for his drive, creative vision, expert musical knowledge, and respect for the jazz tradition, as well as the tireless passion and commitment he brings to the many projects he produces. Cramer began his career playing with the bands of Shox Johnson and The Jive Bombers and Jim Galloway’s Wee Big Band. He was a founding member of Crazy Rhythm, a band which backed everyone from Eddie ‘Cleanhead’ Vinson to Slim Gaillards, and has been a member of the Jane Bunnett Quintet and other Bunnett bands and ensembles since the late ‘70s.
Partnering with his wife, the celebrated saxophonist/flutist Jane Bunnett, Cramer is deeply involved in all aspects of live music production, promotion, and recording both on stage and in the studio with numerous JUNO and Grammy nominations and wins to his credit. As a player and producer, he tours frequently throughout Europe, North America, and Latin America with Jane Bunnett and the internationally-lauded Spirits of Havana.
Larry Cramer performed in four separate concerts during the “Sound of Toronto Jazz” Series at the Ontario Science Centre between 1979 and 1986: with Jim Galloway’s Wee Big Band on February 12, 1979; as a member of Shox Johnson and The Toronto Jive Bombers on March 24, 1980; as co-leader of the Larry Cramer/Del Dako Quintet on November 21, 1983; and with the Jane Bunnett Quintet on December 1, 1986.
