Kenny Rankin
Biography
KENNY RANKIN (vocalist, guitarist, composer) was born February 10, 1940 in New York City and passed away June 7, 2009 in Los Angeles California. Rankin, with his warm vocals, charted several albums on Billboard’s Top 100 in the 1970s in the pop arena and later angled his career to more jazz oriented fare in the 1990s. A favourite of Johnny Carson, Rankin’s tunes were recorded by such artists as Mel Torme and Carmen McCrae. His collaborators included Alan Broadbent, Bill Watrous and Michael Brecker. Stan Getz described him as a “horn with a heartbeat”.
