Biography

JOSHUA REDMAN (saxophonist, composer, bandleader) was born February 1, 1969 in Berkeley, CA. The son of celebrated saxophonist Dewey Redman, Raised by his mother, Redman took up saxophone at the age of 10 and after winning the Thelonius Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition declined acceptance to Yale Law School, after graduating summa cum laude to pursue a career in music. Redman has led groups with Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden and Brad Mehldau as members, leading to 2 Grammy nominations and was artistic director of the SF Jazz Collective from 2004 -2007.
