Biography

JAMES ‘JIM’ PETT (guitarist, composer, producer, arranger) studied at Berklee College in Boston as well as privately with leading teachers in Mexico, Toronto, Kenya, and Tanzania. As a guitarist, he has appeared in clubs and in concert appearances in Victoria, the Gulf Islands, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Fredericton, and Halifax in Canada, as well as in New York, Boston, Paris, and London internationally. He has collaborated with dozens of musicians, both playing and producing, including Bucky Aams, Ron Allen, Keith Blackley, Micah Barnes, Shirley Eikhard, Don Franks, Holly Cole, Daisy DeBolt, Phil Nimmons, Al Henderson, George Koller, Mike Murley, Claude Ranger, and Richard Underhill.

He is a prolific composer with numerous of his compositions having been aired on radio and television for stations and networks across Canada. He has also amassed prestigious credentials as an arts administrator and artistic director for some of the country’s most respected arts organizations and projects.

Jim Pett led the James Pett Trio (with Dave Young on bass and Keith Blackley on drums) when they presented a concert during the “Sound of Toronto Jazz” Series at the Ontario Science Centre on February 20, 1989.
