Jackie Paris

Biography

JACKIE PARIS (vocalist) was born September 20, 1926 and passed away June 17, 2004. Paris was vocalist of choice in the bebop world: touring with Charlie Parker’s Quintet, recording with Charles Mingus and debuting the first vocal version of Thelonius Monk’s “Round Midnight”. At his peak he won numerous critics polls and performed with many jazz greats. The product of a childhood on the vaudeville circuit, he became an integral part of the 52nd street jazz scene in the late 40’s and 50s of New York. Although never achieving popular commercial success, he remained a respected, if low profile singer, among the musical community for his sensitive interpretations and respect for songwriters’ intentions.
