Biography

HERB ELLIS (guitarist) was born August 4, 1921 in Farmersville, Texas. The legendary musician renowned for his great technique is best known for his five year role as part of the famous Oscar Peterson trio along with bassist Ray Brown . The trio not only produced their own critically acclaimed albums but acted as “house band” for such greats as Ben Webster, Stan Getz and Dizzy Gillespie. A graduate of North Texas State, in addition to studio work, and his own recordings, Ellis also toured with Ella Fitzgerald and as part of the “Great Guitars” – along with Joe Pass, Charlie Byrd and Barney Kessel through the 1970s and 80s.
