Biography

GAP MANGIONE (pianist, composer, arranger, bandleader) Rochester, N.Y. born and raised Mangione began writing and arranging for area big bands at age 15. Along with his brother, trumpeter Chuck Mangione they formed the Jazz Brothers in 1960 and through the encouragement of Canonball Adderley recorded the first of three albums for Riverside Records. He released “Diana in the Wind in 1968 featuring Steve Gadd and Tony Levin, his first of 7 solo albums. A featured performer on many of Chuck’s projects, Gap is continues to perform in the Rochester area where he leads the Gap Mangione Big Band, formed in 1990, as well as solo work .
