Biography

FLIP PHILLIPS (saxophonist, clarinetist) was born February 26, 1915 and passed away August 17, 2001. Phillips was part of the Woody Herman Band, and its’ spin-off The Woodchoppers in the mid 1940s before leading his own group. Performing on many recordings he is perhaps his best known for his tenure with “Jazz at the Philharmonic” from 1946 – 1957.
