Biography
ERNESTINE ANDERSON (vocalist) was born November 11, 1928 in Houston, Texas. Raised on blues and gospel, Anderson sultry delivery is at ease with a trio or big band, ballads to swing, bringing her 4 Grammy nominations and a 7 decade career. Anderson began singing professionally as a teenager with Johnny Otis and later with Lionel Hampton bringing her to New York. Her debut recording, “Hot Cargo” won her critical and popular acclaim as well as Down Beat’s New Star award in 1959. Settling in Europe in the 60’s Anderson had a career revival after an appearance at the 1976 Concord Jazz Festival with a series of almost 20 albums following.
