CAROL SLOANE (vocalist) was born on March 5, 1937 in Providence, Rhode Island. Singing professionally since the age of 14 , she performed with the Les and Larry Elgart Orchestra, as backup for Lambert, Hendricks and Ross with Jon Hendricks being instrumental in getting Sloane a solo spot at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1961. Sloane worked consistently in nightclubs, TV, radio and recording in the 60s. After a turbulent relationship with pianist Jimmy Rowles, she relocated to the south, booking jazz acts for a supper club in Chapel Hill, N.C., and working as legal secretary and in 2000 hosted a radio program, “The Jazz Matinee at WICN FM. Her 2007 release is entitled “Dearest Duke” a tribute to Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
