Biography

BARRY HARRIS (pianist, composer, educator) was born December 15, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. The highly influential educator and bop era musician has performed with Cannonball Adderly, Coleman Hawkins, Dexter Gordon and Max Roach as well as leading his own groups on over 14 albums. Harris had a close association with Thelonius Monk and appears in the famed documentary “Straight, No Chaser”. A passionate advocate of jazz education, Harris continues to perform and teach his unique harmonic system and has created a series of workbooks and videos.
