Biography
ALBERT MANGELSDORFF (trombonist, bandleader) was born September 5, 1928 in Frankfurt, Germany and passed away July 5, 2005. The avant garde musician, who first took up guitar had to temper his enthusiasm for the medium in Nazi Germany. Mangelsdorff was selected to represent Germany in 1958 for the Newport Jazz Festival International Band. Known for pioneering jazz multiphonics on solo trombone and his virtuosity, he also led his own quintets and worked with Elvin Jones and Jaco Pastorius.
