Q; “You like trumpet players who are trumpet players, who get that sound. Is that what is important to you, the sound that you put through your horn?”

A: “Sound what they do with the instrument. Sound is, I think, primary. Why are you going to play an instrument if don't like the sound you make. And the nice thing is there is a conception that I like of playing the instrument, really playing the instrument.”
