Q: “You are, in that somewhat ‘knocked down’ phrase, self taught which might actually be the purest way to do it but it’s not the easiest, is it?”

A: “Well, it has its shortcomings, you know. You see, instead of saying practicing scales like you would, you know, because that is intended to cover all of situations I get, you know, that scales and intervals and things, but if you would just ... like I just played what I want to play, you know, and that's not always scales.”
