Q: “You can’t understand how people think that it’s – it’s writer’s and everything – that think musicians of different sort of eras or styles can’t play together.

A: “Well, that’s one thing that I’ve always felt, that a good musician actually circumvents all styles. That's the word I would use, in other words, he isn’t baffled by any change. I think writers in public are more concerned with style than a good musician is. I think these dates prove that to a great extent because we've put all different types together and yet the resulting product is good. Now, you might have favorites among them, but I’ve seen people have this record in their home that maybe didn’t care for Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker at certain years. I’m not saying now or when, that maybe we’re Teddy Wilson fans or Flip fans or Fordy [ph]. And yet people that like Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie still have... they accept the other two as good because … actually the resulting product is what is good. If that’s good, I think it’s worth it, but I don’t think any of them would have any trouble playing anywhere.”
