Q: “Was your family musical?”

A: “My dad was self-taught ragtime player and I was just thinking and even now it occurs to me that I'm doing exactly what he liked to do. He was semi-professional, but you know, he liked to play at parties, you know, at the dances and at the parties, he'd always be playing, and he played Stretch Feet Rag and Sweet, Sweet Things like that. So I'm sure now that was one of the primary motivations, you know, I got to add here and there, you know.”
