Q: “You could find [Don Thompson] playing piano with George Shearing in duets, on one hand you’ll find him working in the late sixties with Claude Ranger and Sonny Greenwich…”

A: Mark Miller: “The context that I used in the book, in fact, is the period, the three or four days when he was in town off the … Well he wasn't off the road with George Shearing, but George Shearing was, in fact, playing at the Imperial Room and Don was playing there at night while recording during the day with Dave Littman, which is, in fact, truly a night and day situation as far as music goes.”

Interviewer: “True.”

Mark Miller: “And he was basically commuting between the two.”
