Q: “Who are guys that you listened to? Did you learn from other piano players or saxophone players?”

A: “I think I learned from... it's hard for me to pinpoint anybody as far as who I learned from because I was listening to everything. As far as piano players, well, myself like everybody else, we were all listening to Art Tatum. But I used to listen a lot to Earl Hines. I really liked the way he played.”
