Q: “Somebody like a Bernie Senensky, who writes too, he’s naturally going to be interested in producing a record that has his compositions on it, which is fine and wonderful and should be the case but there should also be a couple of standards that people know so that somebody at a radio station in Biloxi, Mississippi might get this record and say ‘oh, I’ll play You Must Remember This’ and then play that and relate to it because he knows this guy can really play. If he plays an original he’s never heard before, there’s no personal involvement...”

A: “That can be the case, yeah. And I think, in Bernie's case, I think it's valid to do that. But some projects, don't suit that. I mean, I wouldn't ask Kenny Wheeler to play 'You Must Remember This'.
