Q: “Your youngest days were spent in New York, right?”
A: “New York was, you know, my home. I'm born and raised there. I really didn't get away to the '40s, you know, after the high school. Then I felt kind of adventurous I mean ... I didn't stay in California at first. I was always going back and forth and back and forth because I did a lot of work in Greenwich Village and clubs like Monroe's Uptown House in Harlem and mostly, you know, regular gigs in New York.”
